A Message from the Dean

Dear alumni and friends,

It is an exciting time in the School of Management to be writing to you, and in this issue of Buffalo Business, you'll see why.

Our cover story explores a topic that is critically relevant to business today-women in leadership-and offers valuable insights from our graduates and faculty.

In September, we opened our much-needed Undergraduate Learning and Community Center (see story in Stepping Up). The high-tech space is already making an important impact on our students, and we are so appreciative to our donors for their generosity in helping the facility get up and running.

In entrepreneurship news, the School of Management played a key role in securing a grant from the Blackstone Charitable Foundation to open the Blackstone LaunchPad, a campus-wide entrepreneurship resource for students. You can also read about the continued success of last year's Panasci Technology Entrepreneurship Competition winners, who went on to win the Rise of the Rest competition.

Last fall, we were pleased to add seven new faculty to our ranks, and you can read about their qualifications and research, while catching a glimpse into their personal interests, in Insights. Also in Insights, you'll read how a number of our faculty are making a name for the school with exciting research on topics ranging from the NFL draft and online advertising to food traceability systems and sovereign wealth funds.

Throughout this issue, you'll also see how the success of our exceptional students and alumni—from competition winners in accounting and cybersecurity to our annual alumni award recipients—are increasing the value of a School of Management degree.

I hope you enjoy reading about our progress, and, as always, I welcome your comments as we move forward.

Sincerely,

Paul Tesluk

Interim Dean
