A Message from the Dean

It's been an incredibly busy and productive academic year so far, and I am pleased to say that the School of Management is making exceptional strides.

The six new faculty members who joined the school in September (see Insights) are already making an impact through their teaching and research, and the school has received acclaim in four newly released rankings.

Innovative programs such as LeaderCORET are beginning to get national attention. In fact, Professor Muriel Anderson was invited to give a presentation on LeaderCORE at an MBA Curricular Innovation Symposium at the University of Washington and she received outstanding feedback from other schools.

In particular, I am thrilled to see the level at which you, our alumni, are engaged with the school. Our alumni increase the value of a School of Management degree in countless ways, including assisting our MBA committee with important revisions to the core curriculum; sharing your executive teams with our students through our Corporate Champions program; preparing our students for career success by serving as guest lecturers, case competition judges and presenters; recruiting our students for credit-bearing internships and full-time employment; welcoming our students on visits to your cities; mentoring business owners and providing feedback on business plans through our Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership; and much, much more.

Our alumni association hosted a global networking event, and we were thrilled to have seven cities and nearly 200 alumni participate.

In October, Satish K. Tripathi began his UB 2020 Presidential Tour for UB Alumni, during which he will visit 20 cities in 20 months to meet with alumni and share his vision for the university. If your city is on the list, I encourage you to attend. This is an outstanding opportunity to meet UB's new president, hear about key progress and what's on the horizon, and share your ideas about UB and its future.

Our progress as a school and the success of our alumni are continued sources of great pride. As we continue to expand our horizons within the global marketplace, we are able to bring our alumni around the world closer together. As always, I welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Sincerely,

Arjang A. Assad
