SOMAA members: Free online help with your career

The School of Management Alumni Association (SOMAA) is proud to introduce a new member benefit, CareerBeam. Created by the industry leader in virtual career success centers, CareerBeam is an interactive, self-guided, user-friendly program designed to help you achieve your career goals.

This state-of-the-art, online career coach is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All SOMAA members now have free access to CareerBeam, via the School of Management Web site at mgt.buffalo.edu/alumni.

CareerBeam can help you determine what you want in your career and offer the steps to achieve your goals through a wide range of online career assessments.

CareerBeam asks questions based on your vision, values, temperament, personality, interests, skills, fascinations, likes and dislikes. The result is a personal career profile that provides information on your career selection, leadership style, work environment and strengths to assist you with career decision-making and selection. CareerBeam then provides assistance in résumé building, cover letter writing and interview preparation.

Finally, CareerBeam provides access to research on more than 15 million organizations, 20 million industry contacts, industry profiles and companies in more than 70 different countries. Its database allows you to see career postings at companies all over the world. CareerBeam takes the best assessments available, the most powerful résumé and cover letter builders and the most up-to-date research on organizations, contacts and companies and places them on one online platform to assist you in your career search.

If you are not a member of the SOMAA, you may subscribe to CareerBeam for an annual fee of $75, or for an even better value, you can join the SOMAA/UBAA for only $50 and take advantage of this and the many other opportunities that membership provides.

Connoisseurs Club

The SOMAA's Connoisseurs Club is officially under way. The Connoisseurs Club is a series of three upscale social events featuring ultra-premium beverages coupled with an extraordinary menu. These events are held at exclusive locations, each with a unique flair: a spirit event in March, a beer event in June and a wine event in October. The Connoisseurs Club is a private club limited to 100 members. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. It is a great opportunity to make new contacts and network with business associates and fellow alumni. Call the Alumni Relations Office at 716-645-3224 for more information.

SOMAA/UBAA joint membership

Membership is available year-round. For the low price of $50, you can enjoy the benefits of both the School of Management and UB Alumni Associations, so join today.

Student Relations

Our commitment to reach out and have more involvement with students and provide them with networking opportunities has begun with a monthly coffee and donuts event that the SOMAA is co-sponsoring with various School of Management student clubs. Club presidents were offered the opportunity to host a table in the Alfiero Center, along with members of the SOMAA board of directors. It is a great opportunity for the student clubs and SOMAA to build their presence in the School of Management, as well as a chance for student club members to socialize with alumni. So far the SOMAA has hosted three events, with a goal of doing three per semester.
